(Danville) — Growing pains will close a popular walking spot in the city this summer.
Danville Public Schools announced Monday that construction on the nearby school campus will force them to close the Langston track to the public starting May 13. The work should be done by September.
The Langston building and grounds is being converted into the new home for Galileo Magnet High School. It will also house the School Board’s Central office, along with a new Middle School STEM lab.
It’s part of a larger capital improvement effort in the city school system, made possible by a voter-approved one-cent hike in the city’s sales tax.
In the meantime, walkers can use the track at Bonner and Westwood after school hours. There’s also the Riverwalk Trail with trailheads at the Crossing at the Dan, Riverside Drive behind Biscuitville, Dan Daniel Park, and the Main Street Plaza.
