(Danville) — Hundreds were honored this weekend at Danville Community College’s annual commencement ceremonies.
The school handed out certificates to 566 students. The graduates earned a total of 840 credentials including more than 240 Associate’s degrees, over 75 Diplomas, and more than 500 Career Studies Certificates.
There were 175 honor graduates this year, earning their degrees with a grade point average of at least 3.2. There were 34 graduates from DCC’s two honor societies.
Former Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia Laura Worley Novey was the Commencement Keynote Speaker.
“I want to congratulate all of the graduates gathered here today to celebrate their achievements and all of the family and friends who gave help and support along the way,” Novey told the graduates. “I wish you all the best of luck in your future pursuits.”
Assistant Professor and Director of Early Childhood Education Traci Daniel was recognized as the Student Government Association’s Teacher of the Year.
The annual Stephanie L. Ferguson Medallion of Courage award went to Toni Stewart, a student who has shown great determination and perseverance in the face of adversity.
