(Gretna) — The local Humane Society is dealing with a nasty case of animal abandonment just before Christmas.
Paulette Dean, Executive Director with the Danville Area Humane Society says someone brought nine puppies in Monday afternoon. Four were found outside a dumpster in Gretna…five were found in the dumpster. “These are tiny puppies. There is no way those five got into the dumpster by themselves,” Dean said. “And there’s no way the four outside the dumpster were able to jump out of the dumpster.”
The Humane Society is currently caring for seven of the puppies. They appear to be lab mixes, not much than a month old. “We had to take two of them to a veterinary clinic because of eye infections,” Dean said. “There was so much infection we were not sure they even had eyes.”
Anyone with information on the person responsible for abandoning the puppies can call the Danville Area Humane Society at 799-0843.
