(Chatham) — The Pittsylvania County School System is mourning the loss of one of their top officials.
Kenyon Scott, assistant superintendent for operations in county schools died Friday evening at the age of 53.
He began his career in education as a social studies teacher at Chatham High School, a position he kept for eight years before moving into administration. He was assistant principal and later Principal at Gretna High School, his alma mater.
At the central office, Scott was named assistant superintendent for operations in 2016. He headed up the transportation, maintenance and information technology departments at all Pittsylvania County public schools. Most recently that put him in charge of several high-profile emergency preparedness drills where the schools working with local law enforcement to help prepare for the worst.
Scott also served at one time as a member of Chatham Town Council.
His funeral is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chatham.
